There are three great motives that urge us to humility. It becomes me as a creature, as a sinner, as a saint. The first we see in the heavenly hosts, The second appeals to us in our fallen state, In the third we have the mystery of grace. "Humility is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret." Humility is considered one of the best books on this topic. Brief, but powerful, Murray explores this topic through surveying a range of scriptures passages. Murray considers Christ to be the ultimate model as the one who gave up His life, in order to gain life for His people.

Humility By Andrew Murray Illustrated edition by Andrew Murray Victor Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Andrew Murray seasoned pastor and writer speaks from his own experience and insights on this journey. It is soul searching, breaking each layer of self interest which runs counter to God's interest in the elevation of the spirit above the soul demands. As the reader yields to the abandonment of his self interest in pursuit of God's intended humility, he will uncover a wealth of accompanying virtues that accompany the deposit of humility into our spirit.
The book itself is excellent and should be read over and over by all Christians everywhere.
However, this particular edition has so many errors (spelling, woord spacing, punctuation, spcrutoure reference...), enough to make me give it three stars.
Please, go read the book but do not buy this copy.
An excellent book. I was amazed how much it helped in comparison to any other book. Also the price didn't give it justice which made me stop and think at first, now I know better. Highly recommended in Jesus's name
Andrew Murray (9 May 1828 – 18 January 1917) was a South African writer, teacher and Christian pastor. A bibliography compiled by D. S. B. Joubert estimates that Murray published over 240 books and tracts[3]; this number includes more than 50 books, many of them authored in both Dutch and English.
I found this out after reading this book. Quite a lot of works. I'm lucky that I stumbled upon this one. This book has taught me exactly what I was hoping it would, and more. I first searched the web for a book on humility, because I wanted to expand my knowledge on the subject. Because of this book, I now truly know how to strive for humility. Through God's grace, Rev. Andrew Murray has given us a literary treasure. This book is only 50 pages in length. I read it a chapter a day - and this felt like I was receiving lessons from the Rev. himself. Each day I've been practicing my humility - now that I've reached the end of the book, it's time to say thanks. I'd also like to suggest this book to any "new" believers, i.e people who have either just joined or re-joined the Christian church. As a born again Orthodox Christian, I can say that this book has changed my life for the better. I look forward to reading his other books, and re-reading Humility - The Beauty of Holiness.
Was recommended to me by a friend, Andrew Murray's 1895 classic theological writings on humility are deep and challenging to the Christian, especially in today's social media self-image branding world we live in.
Highly recommended. One of my favorite quotes is when the author describes humility as "the displacement of self by the enthronment of God. Where God is all, self is nothing." Try living to that standard.
Powerful, practical, personal. If you desire to experience real Christian growth, read and apply. It will change your focus. It will change your life!
This is a book to read slowly and prayerfully. As Murray contends, most do not take this virtue seriously enough, nor understand the incredible ramifications of its lack upon their genuine holiness.
The first step in humility is to realize our place as a created being before the Creator. A continual and intentional reminding of who we are and our need for God is our first duty as Christians. “Pride, or the loss of this humility, is the root of every sin and evil.”
The life and teachings of Jesus provide us with much instruction about the importance of humility “Jesus came to bring humility back to earth, to make us sharers in it, and by it, to save us. In heaven, He humbled Himself to become man. The humility we see in Him possessed Him in heaven; it brought Him, and He brought it, from there.”
Humility is the root of all of the graces of the Christian life, and pride the opposite “Without humility, there is no faith, love, joy, or strength demonstrated in our lives. Humility is the only soil in which the graces take root; the lack of humility is the reasonable explanation for every defect and failure in the Christian life.”
Humility is extremely practical. Murray says, “May God teach us that our thoughts, words, and feelings concerning our fellow man are His test of our humility towards Him.” Humility = practical holiness.
A humble heart depends continually upon the grace of God, that attitude of heart that replaces pride. Humility comes only by grace through faith in prayer.
A slow reading of this book will be an instrument of God’s Spirit to humble your soul as it did mine.
I give this book 5 stars! Important teaching that is sadly missing from our churches today. Humility is the key to a true relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It's at the base of character. The author emphasizes how important humility is in our order to have a fruitful Christian walk.
